Reading In Motion Introduces 100% virtual program option: Reading Together, Anywhere!
June 9, 2020
We are excited to share the latest update from our team: announcing Reading Together, Anywhere! our 100% virtual program option for schools.
As the situation in our country has evolved since mid-March, so has our program. In response to COVID-19, we quickly adapted our approach to ensure students continued to make progress toward reaching their reading goals, in spite of the challenges of remote learning. Immediately we produced suites of accessible digital learning tools for students, parents, and teachers to help bring the classroom into homes across the country. But we know the work doesn’t end there.
While these tactics address the immediate need to prevent learning loss in a national and worldwide emergency, they are not enough to serve as a long-term solution for students and teachers who need reading results that are as close to the level of the physical classroom as possible. That’s where our 100% virtual program, Reading Together, Anywhere! comes in.

Presented with the many challenges to education right now, our team has been hard at work to adapt our art-infused reading curriculum for students and teachers to use remotely. We understand that education is changing as a result of this crisis, and that there’s a good chance students will continue distance learning, in some capacity, for the foreseeable future. In order to continue to serve our students, we are committed to the development of this 100% virtual program option, Reading Together, Anywhere!, by September 2020.
Reading In Motion is no stranger to innovation. The organization began as Whirlwind in 1983, with a primary focus on teaching performing and visual arts in schools. In 1997, we pivoted our focus to improve reading-development skills in our students, and in 2003 we officially changed our mission to literacy and became Reading In Motion. Since then, we’ve shifted our focus to pre-k through first grade students, expanded our in-person program to Las Vegas, and piloted our first ever remote coaching model in Detroit.
We have been able to change and expand our work in these essential ways because of the support of our incredible community. Our goals are – and have always been – ambitious, and they’re based on the rigorous program development process we have used successfully for the past 25 of our 37 years. And beyond that, they’re grounded in the unwavering support of a community who believes as strongly as we do that every student, regardless of environment or circumstances, deserves to be a reader. Together, we can do this!
Sincerely,
