Our Commitment to Our Community | COVID-19 Update

March 19, 2020

To the Reading In Motion Community:

Like you, our highest priority at Reading In Motion is to ensure the health and safety of our communities. We are deeply saddened that our students will be out of school due to school closings, but incredibly grateful for the measures taken to protect our students and educators. As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to impact many across the globe, we extend our hearts to all affected.

Also like you, we want to help our community thrive. Inspired by the creativity and perseverance of our nation’s teachers, school administrators, and our youngest learners, our team is hard at work ensuring that our students and their families have access to the educational tools they need to continue learning during this time of social distancing.

As the situation in our country evolves, so will our program. Following the lead of our public school partners in Chicago, Las Vegas, and Detroit, and with the guidance of the Center for Disease Control and our local governments, our entire team has moved to working remotely for the foreseeable future, and we are actively adapting our program for distance learning. As our schools evaluate a transition to in-home education, we are working with our partner teachers, principals, and school administrators in real time to create the vital resources to replace in-school instruction for every young student, tailored to their individual needs and reading goals.

We are also working to develop reading resources for parents, creating a handful of tools—in both English and Spanish—to help guide reading activities at home. These will be shared in the coming days and weeks.

Our staff remains an active and available resource to all who rely on our program for reading instruction, and we are working with our partners to adapt as this situation develops. Today and every day, we are proud to be a part of such a dedicated and compassionate community of educators, young learners, and literacy advocates. In this ever-changing landscape, we look forward to continuing our work alongside you in support of our country’s students.

We will continue to communicate with you in the coming days. Should you have any questions, please contact our team at info@readinginmotion.org.

Sincerely,

Executive Director Gabe Gonzalez & the Reading In Motion Team
