BOARD PROFILES: SERVING THE MISSION

Auxiliary Board Memberwebsite-picture2

Meet Blake Roter of the Reading In Motion Auxiliary Board. In his professional life, Blake is an Attorney at Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella, focusing on the representation of major corporations, financial institutions, non-profit organizations, pension funds and mid-sized businesses in complex commercial and civil litigation.

Blake is no stranger to the city of Chicago. Having grown up in Northbrook, IL in a family of educators, Blake not only has an understanding of the Chicago Public School system, but also an appreciation for education. He says, “An excellent education is the foundation to success and having strong reading skills is necessary for an excellent education. Becoming involved in Reading In Motion was a natural way to support an organization which provides the essential reading education to young students that is so important to their education and success and ultimately, the success of Chicago.”

Blake’s hope for the future is for every prekindergarten, kindergarten and first grade student in the entire Chicagoland area – whether in public, private or charter schools – will benefit from Reading in Motion, and we’ll be able to look back in many years and know that generations of Chicago students have stronger reading skills because of their experience with Reading in Motion.

Jill Fraggos has served the Reading In Motion Board of Directors for 16 years and is currently the Vice Chair of the Marketing & Sales Committee. Jill’s dedication to improving the lives of children is also reflected in her professional life as the Senior Director of Government Relations at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. The Government Relations team advocates for public policies at the local, state and federal level that impact the health and well-being of all children.

Jill says, “The mission of Reading In Motion is very personal to me. I have a sister who struggled with reading in her youth. I witnessed first-hand how this had a material impact on her confidence both socially and academically. The support my sister received to help improve her reading skills was absolutely life changing for her.  Reading at grade level can transform a child’s life and that is what Reading Motion seeks to do every day.”

When Jill and her family lived within the city of Chicago, they resided near a poor performing CPS school, and they reluctantly moved out of the city to Oak Park because they couldn’t get access to another CPS school. Jill says, “I vowed to help improve the CPS schools the day we left the city. Reading In Motion works tirelessly every single day to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children in Chicago Public Schools, and they do it with results!”

Jill looks forward to replicating Reading In Motion’s curriculum in schools with children who need us throughout the country.
